Feeling Like A Big Jerk

This captures Ryan to the tee, that concerned gaze...

So there's nothing like making your kid cry four minutes before the bus comes.

We were having a great morning....then I happened to glance at Ryan's homework from last night as I was putting his folder into his backpack.

I noticed that all his P's looked like 9's, so I had him sit down to correct his mistakes.

But he was being difficult and wouldn't pay attention to my advice.

So what did I do?

I slammed my hand down on the table and yelled, "Will you ever listen to a damned thing I say?"

Nice, Jess.

Real nice.

So he finished his work with tears rolling down his face and now I feel like a witch.

I gave him a hug and kissed his cheek and told him I was sorry for being mean.

I know he's probably forgotten about it already...he even gave me a smile as the bus drove off.

But I still feel like a jerk.

A big fat jerk.

  1. You're not a jerk, just a very frustrated mom! I've been there, done that.

  2. You saw the hurt and you appologized. You're on the right track. We are human--not super Mom. We want to be everything to everyone--we can't. Patience is not always easy, especially when a deadline is looming. Sit down later today, when Ryan comes home, and practice the letters he has a problem with... maybe give him the tools to remember which is which by identifying them with a word or picture, will help him. Good Luck Jess--you're a good Mom. You show so much love everyday. Your children are very lucky. xo

  3. Aw Jess! you're not a jerk! It broke my heart to read this - not because Ryan cried - he bounced back quickly and forgave you - but because you took it so hard. You are such a wonderful mother! It is evident in the way that you write about your children, the amazing things they do and say, and those beautiful smiling faces I see whenever I see you guys! (which we don't get to see each other enough!)
I absolutely love this pic of Ryan too. Your children are so beautiful!
